God is Always Awake

By //  by Fern 3 Comments

Sleep in peace. God is awake.
Sleep in peace. God is awake.

Do you ever lay awake at night because of thoughts that refuse to quiet down? Do you often wish you had someone to talk to at those times? Are those the times when you feel most alone?

I could say “yes” to all three of those questions, especially during specific periods in my life.

The wonderful thing is that there is Someone who is available to us night and day and in every time zone and spot on the earth.  He’s been available to every person from the beginning of time. I’m so grateful that God is always present, listening, talking, and giving His peace when the rest of my world feels upside down.

As a young adult attending Bible college, I owned a poster that I tacked to the wall above my bed in every dorm room I inhabited. “Sleep in peace, God is awake” was its message, and one I took to heart many times, and still do! I later discovered those words are an excerpt from a longer quote by Victor Hugo, a French writer who lived in the 1800s:

“Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake.” -Victor Hugo

It is an amazing privilege as a Christian to commit our every care to the Lord, talk it over with Him, and then go to sleep in peace because we know He is awake keeping watch over all!

What a great reminder about God’s constant watchcare over us! He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep!

It’s true that God is always awake, but if you ever feel tempted to doubt this, you’re not alone. See Psalm 44:23. 😉

Inspiration

“Just think, you’re here not by chance, but by God’s choosing. His hand formed you and made you the person you are. He compares you to no one else—you are one of a kind. You lack nothing that His grace can’t give you. He has allowed you to be here at this time in history to fulfill His special purpose for this generation.”
