Reading through the Bible?
« on: January 11, 2009, 02:12:34 PM »
Seeing the through-the-Bible-in-a-year reading schedule has challenged me to once again make that a goal.  I say "once again" because it has been a goal several times over, yet for all my years on this planet not once have I reached that goal.  So, this year I am determined!  Are you?  If this is a goal of yours for this year, too, let's meet here for progress checks.   ;D

Even more ambitious is the plan to read through the entire Bible in 90 days.  This is from Moody radio.  If you start tomorrow, the 12th, and stay on schedule, you will finish the day before Easter.

I think I'll start with the year-plan this time round.  I'd be interested to know if you are working towards this goal, too, either on the year plan, the 90-day plan, or some other plan.  Now, I'm off to start reading. I'm 10 days behind already!

New Poster!!

Each year I promise to read the entire bible and never quite make it. So this year, I am praying for the Lord to reveal which books would be most beneficial toward my growth. Of course the entire bible would be beneficial, but I much rather accomplish this goal this year than give up like I always do. :D

Do you know which readthrough you are going to do?
I have started with the P.S schedule and so far am up to date.

The times I have read through the bible (from front cover to back) have sometimes turned into times of just wanting to get through it instead of medidating on it and hearing from the Holy Spirit through it.  What I have now chosen to do is read through sections of the old and new testament each morning, sometimes repeating the same book, if I feel it is particularly piercing to my heart at that time, similar to what you're doing CompletelyLoved.  For example Isaiah has been consistently something I'm turning back to in the past year.

I think there is value in both -- in reading through the Bible from start to finish, and in reading/studying it in depth in smaller portions.

One great value I've gleaned from reading the Bible from cover to cover, especially with the chronological plan we have here on PS, is being able to better see the whole picture of the Bible and God's overall message to us through it.

There are definite advantages to both ways of reading/studying the Bible. I'd encourage people to do both -- if not at the same time, then one year do one, and another year the other, for instance. There are also Bible reading plans out there that will take you though the Bible in several years, rather just in one, which would still give one the overall view while also allowing for more time for studying/meditating on what is read each day.

Here are a few optional plans for reading through the Bible:
