Messages of Love

      By Fern Horst

All kinds of messages bombard us daily. Some are positive and make us feel good about who we are, where we've come from, and where we're headed. Others creep in subtly and twist our thinking over time, leaving us feeling unloved, unworthy, unattractive, and insignificant.

There's no way to completely avoid all these messages. We can turn off the TV, lay down the magazines and newspapers, and choose carefully where we surf on the Internet. But we can't avoid them all. Even the grocery store screams at us from their magnificent displays of greeting cards, chocolates, and fresh flowers that no one loves us. The magazine covers as we wait in line challenge our sense of personal beauty. Even the radio commercials in the car on the way home can make us feel insignificant.

Well, God wants to set us free from such lies so that we can wake up each day to serve Him with a sense of being loved completely by Him - so much so that His love overflows to the people we see and interact with each day. He has filled His Word with affirmation after affirmation of how He created us in His image, loves us immensely, valued us as worth dying for, and has a purpose and plan for each one of us.

The only way to combat the untruthful messages that we can't avoid is to saturate our minds with truthful ones. Reading God's affirmations over and over and choosing to believe them will leave much less room for the lies to sink in, take root, and distort our perspective of ourselves and the lives God has given us.

Below is just a small sampling of the many affirmations God has given to us in His Word. I hope you will take some time to dig for similar gems on your own.

"The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love." (Jeremiah 31:3)

"I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine." (Isaiah 43:1)

"I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. (John 14:18)

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee." (Isaiah 41:10)

"I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5)

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing." (Zephaniah 3:17)

"How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee." (Psalm 139:18-19)

"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." (Psalm 139:14)

"Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us." (I John 3:16)

"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." (I John 3:1)

"And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God." (Ephesians 3:19)

"But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself." (Psalms 4:3)

"We love him, because he first loved us." (I John 4:19)

"Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-30)

"The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." (Deuteronomy 33:27)
