"I Am Praying for You"

      By Fern Horst

"The LORD hear thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend thee; Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion." (Psalm 20:1-2)

When I was on staff at a small Bible college, there was a painting of Jesus just opposite the entry door where the faculty and staff entered the office wing of the building. In the painting Jesus was pointing directly at the viewer, and below it was the text, "I am praying for you."

Throughout my years there I experienced various types of challenges with fellow staff, students, and in my personal life. But no matter what was happening, I was encouraged each morning with the reminder that Jesus continuously intercedes before the Father for me. When I read those encouraging words, "I am praying for you," I would present my requests to the Lord as I walked to my office, knowing that throughout the day, Jesus would continue the intercession for me.

Time after time, I would experience God's help and strength. It was a rewarding job seeing students dig into God's Word and seek His will for their lives, and being part of that learning as they came into my office to talk. I learned much from the faculty and staff that enriched my own life, and from the students themselves. I realize that the success of those years was God's hand at work in response to Jesus interceding for me.

But that intercession did not stop when I no longer worked there. Although I don't have the daily reminder of that painting, I know that Jesus doesn't need that reminder to continue His intercession. According to Hebrews, "he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them" (Hebrews 7:25). That means you and me, and all the believers across the globe.

I don't know what you're facing today, but Jesus does. Pour out your heart to Him each morning and present your concerns and requests to Him for the day. Then leave those things in His hands as you enter the day, knowing that He ever lives to make intercession for you!

"My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up." (Psalm 5:3)
